Frequently asked questions

What is Open Banking data?

Open Banking is a secure method of sharing your financial information, regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. It’s the digital equivalent of giving us your printed bank statement, and won't affect your credit rating in any way. All of the UK’s major banks support Open Banking and provide access to your account information, with your consent. Should you choose to share your Open Banking data with Noggin HQ, you are in complete control of removing consent via your Noggin HQ account. We look at your Open Banking data only to help us make a decision about whether we can offer you a “no credit check” phone contract. We use the data to determine affordability and creditworthiness without needing to use a Credit Reference Agency. Open Banking data is helping Noggin to power equitable access to credit, as an alternative to Credit Reference Agencies and their credit scores.

Is sharing Open Banking data with Noggin HQ safe to do?

Yes. We handle your Open Banking data with extreme care and store it in a secure way that is GDPR-compliant. We do not share or send your Open Banking data externally, it is for internal use only. If you’d like to remove your consent for us to continue accessing your Open Banking data (this connection remains live for 90-days), you can update that via your Noggin HQ account pages. If you’d like to request deletion of this data, please email support@nogginhq.co.uk. Will sharing my Open Banking data impact my credit score?

No! We don’t work with Credit Reference Agencies to offer our ‘no credit check’ phone contract.

Can I delete my Open Banking data after I've shared it?

Yes! If you'd like to remove your consent for us to see your Open Banking data you can do this via your account pages. You are also legally entitled to request data deletion, which you can do by emailing support@nogginhq.co.uk.

What is a Noggin HQ ‘no credit check’ phone contract?

A ‘no credit check’ phone contract is just like a normal phone contract, except we don’t do checks with Credit Reference Agencies. Instead, we look at Open Banking data to check that we think you’re a good fit, primarily looking at what we think you can afford. We also confirm that you haven’t ever been declared bankrupt or have an active IVA. At this time, we only offer handset-only phone contracts, but we are looking to offer SIM plans very soon!

Why are the phones we offer refurbished and does this impact their quality?

We have chosen to offer refurbished phones for two main reasons: 1) it helps us limit e-waste and support better sustainability in tech; 2) it means we can offer phone contracts at a cheaper price. The phones that we purchase are restored to Grade A, which means they are “like new”. In saying that, they have been used before, so the handset may have had parts replaced, e.g., screen or hardware. If there are issues with the handset when it arrives, we are happy to organise a free return and replacement for another phone.
